I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful first birthday celebration at the iconic The Lanesborough in London. The event took place in the elegant Belgravia Room, a stunning private space that provided the perfect setting for an intimate and stylish family gathering.
The celebration was organised to mark a very special milestone — a little girl’s first birthday — and around 80 guests were invited to join the family for a refined afternoon tea experience.
An Elegant First Birthday Afternoon Tea in LoNDON
First birthday celebrations have become increasingly popular as stylish family events, and this one was a perfect example of a refined and intimate London gathering.
Guests were welcomed into the Belgravia Room, where beautifully arranged tables were set for a classic luxury afternoon tea experience. The setting was warm, elegant, and ideal for bringing family and friends together to celebrate this important milestone.
For me as a London luxury event photographer, these events are always wonderful to document because they combine emotional family moments with sophisticated surroundings.
Entertainment and Atmosphere
The afternoon included live entertainment that added charm and energy to the celebration.
A magician entertained both the children and the adults with interactive tricks, creating spontaneous laughter and reactions throughout the room. A face painter trasformed kids into a sparking unicorn or fearsome pirate. They all loved to see their face in the mirror! Moments like these are perfect for natural documentary-style photography, capturing genuine expressions and joyful interactions.
At the same time, a harpist performed softly in the background, adding a layer of elegance to the event and perfectly complementing the refined atmosphere of the afternoon tea.
Photographing the First Birthday Celebration
My photography coverage lasted two hours, focusing on documenting the atmosphere of the event, the guests, and of course the birthday girl with her family.
During this time I captured:
- candid guest interactions
- family portraits
- details of the elegant afternoon tea
- entertainment moments
- the overall atmosphere of the celebration
Although my coverage finished before the official cake presentation, the hotel’s wonderful staff kindly accepted to bring the cake out briefly so I could photograph it before leaving. This ensured the family still has a photograph of this important part of the celebration.
Moments like this highlight how great collaboration with a venue team can help preserve key memories during an event.
